Metallicity distribution functions of CALIFA galaxies

The spatially resolved physical properties of galaxies are usually presented as radial profiles. Through these studies it has become apparent that, depending on the global stellar mass and the morphological class, galaxies have two modes of growth: inside-out, for most massive early type galaxies and outside-in for less massive late type galaxies. However the physical properties profiles have enriched our understanding of the physical processes taking place within galaxies, they tell one bit of the whole SFH, since they are just moments of the underlying distribution of the physical properties. In this contribution we present the Metallicity Distribution Function (MDF) across several effective radii for the complete sample of CALIFA galaxies. We look for MW-like galaxies in the global parameter space (e.g., morphological class, stellar mass, size) of the CALIFA survey and compare them to the MW-MDF published by the APOGEE collaboration.
